1) Autumn
The fall is a time of both intoxication and insecurity for me. Intense colors, sensually cool air, and the merciless descent of time. This is the longest piece and so a peculiar choice for the lead – also, it sets a more dark initial tone but the sequence of following pieces seems to flow well from autumn.

2) Nanette
This was written for my lovely wife shortly before we were married. I wanted to make a romantic yet thematic piece. The result is a bit like a Gershwin tune – romantic with a great deal of variation and a bit of drama.

3) Clay Moon
When my son Clay was born he had colic for the first few months. I would walk him at all hours in a sling - more often than not at night. As he was settling down and getting sleepy I would point out, talk about, and sing about the Moon. The melody for this piece came out of those walks.

4) Dancing with Maria
This is for a delightful little girl who used to live next door to us. When she was about 5 she was taking ballet lessons and would dance around with complete abandon.

5) Because
The inspiration for many of my songs comes from imaginary relationships and situations. Why am I here? – Because…….

6) Summer Pond
The title was originally Winter Pond but the imagery I was getting was more laid back, warm, and green.

7) Lady so Fair
This is a romantic piece with a medieval feel – perhaps for Robin Hood and Lady Marian.

8) Midnight Hesitation
Imagine a tempting invitation. It doesn't feel quite right. It's now or never. Hesitation...

9) It’s a Boy
A proud daddy’s joy! At about 20 weeks in my wife’s pregnancy we looked with ultrasound at our child and discovered we had a son.

10) Somewhere Within
This was written long ago (about 20 yrs). This is the first piece in a space opera my brother and I were writing at the time, representing the lament of a young officer lovesick for the distant, beautiful, and very mysterious alien governor.

11) And When She Smiles
A tale of love and infatuation, it started off as a simple yet strong melody that evolved into a slightly abstract instrumental section in the middle.

12) Red Pony
The theme came to me while watching a documentary on horses. The young horses were so fragile with the mothers anxiously watching over them - their joy of playing beginning as soon as they can stand.
